Grief is not a one-size-fits-all matter

Helping Children Navigate Grief

Grief is a feast of feelings and emotions, made up of different ingredients, mixed and stewed differently for each individual. What is universal, however, is that grief is not finite. It is a constant that ebbs and flows with time and circumstance. What’s more, everyone experiences and processes those feelings in their own way. It can be a lonely road filled with highs and lows, and for children those polarizing emotions are tricky to both understand and communicate effectively. Adults have the capacity to communicate their thoughts and find solutions that fit their needs as they navigate grief. Kids, though, are a completely different beast, and they don’t necessarily have the wherewithal to clearly state their feelings and process their emotions. They need outlets to effectively explore those emotions in a healthy, safe, and effectual matter.

Soul 57's Mission

Soul 57 provides a community of peers for youth who’ve experienced the tragedy of losing a parent, sibling, or primary caregiver. Under the supervision of a licensed professional, we offer a setting where youth can connect, communicate, and navigate their grief with other individuals who have experienced similar loss.

The last thing we want caregivers to worry about is cost during this challenging time. With that, Soul 57 is 100% free of charge, and all donations - both monetary or volunteered time - are necessary and appreciated. For more information regarding group therapy, workshops, volunteering, or donations, please reach out to us at www.soul57.org.

What Participants Are Saying

My mom died from brain cancer when I was six. Growing up in a small community, there weren't many options offered for bereaved individuals, let alone a grieving child. Friends and family did their best to offer support, but many - if not all - were unfamiliar with how to support a young child who was actively grieving. Soul 57 would have been invaluable, not only because of the community of peers it offered, but to help provide healthy tools to explore grief. My hope is that Soul 57 will be that safe haven for youth in the BisMan community, and beyond, to find support while processing their loss.
