What is a peer grief support group? Peer grief support groups are a safe space. Members choose how much to participate, if at all. Groups for children and teens involve discussion, play, and activities for expressing grief in a supportive group environment. Adult groups offer facilitated conversations about living life after a death and supporting others who are grieving.
How recent does the loss need to be? You may have lost somebody yesterday or twenty years ago and still have unprocessed grief. There is no expiration date on grief, and, therefore, there is no timeline on our services.
How do I join a group at Soul 57? Our in-office groups are open from August to June. We do not require registration on any given night, but an intake form and a release of information must be filled out prior to your first group. This is so that we can better understand your situation and how we can best support you, and so you have a stress-free arrival to our grief groups. If you are interested in your child attending Oasis, an in-school group, please reach out to your school counselor or to our office. Our number is 701-751-0842 and email is [email protected].
How much do Workshops and Group sessions cost? Everything offered at Soul 57 is 100% FREE OF CHARGE. We never want money to be a burden on an already challenging time.
How frequently do groups meet? How long is a group session? School groups meet every week for 45-50 min and K-12 office groups meet every other week from 5:30-7:00. During youth office groups we serve dinner. Holding Space meets the first and third Thursday of the month from 7:30-8:30.
How long can I participate in a group? Is there a program end date? Our groups are open-ended which means that participants can attend for as long as is helpful in their grief process. If you are having trouble deciding whether you are ready for Group, we are happy to help answer any questions you may have.
What is the timeline for each session? We have an open door policy. Come when you need. Take a few weeks off. Come back whenever. We’re here for you. No strings or timelines attached.

What other youth groups do you have? We currently partner with Quinn Eggert of Northwestern Mutual to offer Courageous Kids. This is a support series for youth aged K-12 who have a friend or loved one undergoing cancer treatment.
What areas do you currently serve? We currently serve Bismarck, Mandan, and surrounding areas up to 45 miles away. We also serve the Watford City and Williston area and hope to be in the Fargo-Moorhead area in 2027.
What happens during Group? Group sessions are facilitated by a licensed mental health professional. During Group, we: eat dinner or snacks, catch up on the last week or two, talk (if you want), listen, address current feelings/emotions, work on projects - i.e. puzzles, coloring, yoga exercises, etc. Really, anything to help attendees feel seen and supported.
What happens during Workshops? Workshops alternate between Writing, Art, Recreational activities (equine therapy, horticulture, meditative movement, dance, etc.) and Music. These workshops are facilitated by professionals in their respective fields and are meant to provide tools/skills to help you navigate your grief in your own time and in a healthy way. We do ask for a simple, quick registration on our website for workshops so that our co-leaders can plan for their facility.
